Ductless mini-splits are the common form of cooling and heating technologies in Europe and the Far East, while having less than 1% of the North American market. Recently, this technology has seen an explosion in terms of advances to enhance its efficiency, as compared to central systems. This session will define what ductless mini-splits are and how they offer advantages for both heating and cooling compared to conventional air conditioning and central heating technologies, such as furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps.
By attending this session, participants will
1. Learn what mini-splits are and why they are so popular elsewhere in the world
2. See their opportunities and measured performance for North American housing, what the barriers are, and how these might be overcome
3. Be better able to see how this rapidly-advancing technology can play a significant role in our energy future, reducing overall energy use, GHG emissions, and peak electrical demand
